Motorola planning to discontinue Moto X lineup in favor of new 'Moto Z' series

Two Motorola devices (shown below) code named Vector Thin and Vertex - that leaked early last week. The report notes that those will be called the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play, respectively.

After three years of selling its flagship handsets under the Moto X brand, Lenovo’s Motorola subsidiary is planning on changing course with this year’s models, according to marketing material seen by VentureBeat. But the change isn’t very drastic; in fact, the company only had to look two letters further down the alphabet to settle on the new branding : Moto Z.

Further, the change will also affect Verizon's Droid line-up, where we might see monikers like Moto Z Style "DROID Edition" and Moto Z Play "DROID Edition." And finally, the report says that the accessories for the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play will be called "Moto Mods" instead of "Amps."
